Van hire and trailer hire frequently asked questions

  • All prices are inclusive of VAT.
  • An initial deposit of 100% of hire charges will be required to confirm a booking.
  • Credit cards are subject to a charge of 2.5%. There is no charge for debit cards.
  • Hire charges for vehicles have to be paid by credit or debit card, the card used to pay has to be present at vehicle collection \ hand over and must be in the name of the hirer.
  • Hire charges for trailers have to be paid by cash, credit or debit card, the card used to pay has to be present at trailer collection \ hand over and must be in the name of the hirer.

  • Drivers outside the age range of 23-75 years. Drivers outside the age range for vehicles may be accepted subject to insurance clearances (surcharges will apply)
  • Drivers who have less than 24 months driving experience since obtaining a permanent licence in the UK or EU to drive a vehicle of the same class as the required hired vehicle.
  • Drivers who have been convicted of an offence in connection with the driving of a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or have had their driving licence endorsed or suspended or more than 6 penalty points imposed. “Spent” convictions, covered by the rehabilitation of offenders Act 1974 may be disregarded.
  • Drivers who have had their insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or special insurance terms imposed as a result of claims experience and/or have had their insurance or cover cancelled by any Motor Insurer.
  • Drivers engaged wholly or partly in professional entertainment or professional sports persons, Jockeys and persons connected with racing, gaming industry or press of any sort, undergraduates and/or students under 25 years of age.
  • Drivers who, whilst driving, have been involved in more than one accident during the past 3 years and Foreign Service Personnel other than persons holding a full UK/EU licence for two years or more.

  • Drivers who do not have the correct entitlement on their Driving Licence.

  • Additional drivers are accepted at an extra £5.00 cost per driver providing they meet our criteria.

  • Should you wish to cancel your booking your initial deposit less an administration charge will be refunded in full if 24 hours’ cancellation notice is given except for rentals that commence on a Monday where 48 hours’ notice is required. Cancellation has to be done by a phone call to our main office during working hours.

  • Vehicles, upon collection a deposit of £200 will need to be paid by credit or debit card to cover any damage to the vehicle during the hire period (refunded when vehicle is brought back in good condition).
  • Trailers, upon collection a deposit of £100 will need to be paid by cash, credit or debit card to cover any damage to the trailer during the hire period (refunded when vehicle is brought back in good condition).
  • Vehicles and trailers cannot be collected outside our normal business hours.
  • Delivery and collection is available please enquire at point of booking.

  • The hire period starts and ends as detailed on the rental agreement.
  • Vehicles and trailers can be hired for 4 hours or 24 hour periods.
  • Vehicles and trailers cannot be returned outside our normal business hours.
  • Delivery and collection is available please enquire at point of booking.

  • Our fuel policy is same too same; you are to return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel.

  • Our vehicles have an allowance of 100 miles 4 Hour Hire, 200 miles per day, 400 miles per weekend, 1000 miles per week and 2000 miles per month, if you are going to exceed these amounts please discuss this with our office at time of booking.

  • You will need to bring the following original documents to our office prior to the hire: –
    1. Two forms of current ID one utility bill and either a council tax bill\bank or credit card statement (no more than 60 days old), this must show your current residential or business address. copies not accepted.
    2. Current driving licence for yourself and each additional driver showing your/their current residential address, if the licence does not show the hirers photograph then a valid passport will be required. The licences must: –
      • EU licences must have the EU symbol.
      • Be valid and within date, expired licences will not be accepted.
      • To hire a trailer, you must have the B & E entitlement.
  • In order to comply with our insurance company’s requirements, we require all drivers of hired vehicles (not applicable to trailers) to authorise us to check their driving licence details online, this is referred to as the GB Driving Licence Checking procedure and operates as follows: –
    1. You can check your licence yourself online in advance or at our office when you collect your hire vehicle.
    2. To perform the check, you will require your driving licence, national insurance number and post code.
    3. Go to the website https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
    4. Log in using your full 16-digit driver number, national insurance number and postcode.
    5. Choose to share your driving licence information, you will then be given a SHARE CODE, make a note of this code and bring this to our office, the share code is case sensitive so make sure you note it down correctly.
    6. We will not be able to proceed with your hire until we have checked your licence details online, this is an insurance requirement.

  • Hire age range for all vehicles is 23-75 years, a daily insurance surcharge will be added for drivers aged between 23-25 years and 70-75 years.
  • Drivers outside the age range for vehicles may be accepted subject to insurance clearances (surcharges will apply)
  • Drivers must have had a minimum of 24 months driving experience since obtaining a permanent licence in the UK or EU to drive a vehicle of the same class as the hired vehicle.
  • For vehicles we can only accept drivers who hold a UK or EU driving licence.
  • Some M65 vehicles may be fitted with towbars, these are not to be used and will render the vehicle insurance invalid.
  • Vehicles cannot be taken out of mainland England, Scotland or Wales without our prior written authority and, in the event of that authority being given, only on such terms as we deem fit.
  • The hired vehicle shall not be used for the carriage of goods of an explosive, dangerous or hazardous nature or for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire and reward. Neither any goods or livestock carried in or on the vehicle are insured by M65 Self Drive Limited. During the period of hire, vehicles will be used entirely at the Hirer’s own risk.

  • The age for hiring trailers is 17 +
  • To hire a trailer, you must have the correct entitlement on your Driving Licence.
  • To hire a trailer, you will need to fit a number plate matching that of the towing vehicle.
  • Trailers cannot be taken out of mainland England, Scotland or Wales without our prior written authority and, in the event of that authority being given, only on such terms as we deem fit.
  • The hired trailer shall not be used for the carriage of goods of an explosive, dangerous or hazardous nature or for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire and reward. Neither any goods or livestock carried in or on the trailer are insured by M65 Self Drive Limited. During the period of hire, trailers will be used entirely at the Hirer’s own risk.

  • Basic insurance is included in the hire price subject to a £750.00 excess (25 – 75 years) £1500.00 (23 – 24 years), collision damage waiver (CDW) is not included in the hire price this can be purchased at an additional cost to reduce your excess to a minimum, CDW is offered at the Discretion of M65 and can be withdrawn at any time. CDW is not available to persons aged 23-24 years.
  • Breakdown cover is included for the mainland UK.

  • Trailers are not insured by M65 Self Drive limited.
  • For Trailer hire you will have to bring proof of valid insurance cover issued by a UK registered insurer for the towing vehicle providing cover for third party risks whilst towing.
  • Breakdown cover is not provided for trailers.
